Dear Thunder Bay,
Somebody had to say it - "enough!" Scattered
litter is abundantly clear in our beautiful
community. Litter discourages economic development
because it impacts real estate values. Litter also
invites fire, theft and vandalism, discourages
tourism and costs a great deal of money to clean
up. Businesses will not locate in a community
which lacks the pride to effectively control
litter. Most importantly, litter has a negative
effect on the quality of life of all of us who
call Thunder Bay home.
The recently formed group Litter Free Thunder Bay
has said "enough." You won't find members of this
group out doing another cleanup however. Their
focus is on prevention. In other words - don't
toss litter in the first place. The group includes
representation from concerned citizens, business,
industry and the City of Thunder Bay. In fact
Mayor Lynn Peterson is our honorary chair.
Litter Free Thunder Bay's goal is to unite Thunder
Bay in action to prevent littering, strengthening
the visual appeal, economic viability and quality
of life of our city. From public education,
information to schools, proper bylaws and
enforcement, to more and better managed trash and
recycling receptacles, Litter Free Thunder Bay
will be encouraging residents to take pride in the
beauty of their community, and to take action.
If you've had enough, you have solutions and
you're willing to take action - join Litter Free
Thunder Bay. Call us at 624-2144 or web mail us at
